Why we built The Gully

Looking down the hallway through the open door to the outdoor bath courtyard

We were not looking to build when we found this block of South West forest, but we found it in the middle of winter, lush and green with the seasonal creek at its highest, and the idea of designing a house into that setting followed pretty quickly.

Josh had been following the architect Kris Keen on his socials for some time, and after we had spent long enough curating our Pinterest boards like master designers, Kris was the one who stood out to bring it to life, and after a call that went on far too long about completely off topic rural adventures we knew he was the right person.

We did not use an interior designer, so every material, finish and piece of furniture was chosen by the two of us, and because we both grew up in houses full of knick knacks and collectibles, The Gully is stripped back to what we genuinely need with just enough to make it comfortable and cosy.

Hosted by us, personally

Our first return booking came from guests who had not even been here 24 hours before they booked a second stay, and that was the first time we knew other people felt about the place the way we do. We still read every single review.

We love the community we are part of, we employ a fantastic local cleaner, and because most of our guests have never been to Nannup before, we get to show this part of the South West to people who might never otherwise have come here.
